Lighting Designer

Chris currently serves as full professor for the Department of Music, Theatre, and Dance at Rhode Island College. He is entering his seventeenth year as a Professor of Theatrical Design and Technical Direction. Other teaching credits are Scene Design Professor at Webster University Conservatory of Theatre Arts and Scene and Lighting Design at Forest Park Community College in St. Louis Missouri.
Since the inception of Abernathy Lighting Design, Chris has collaborated on several projects such as Chisholm Trail Heritage Center, Technology Center at Coalbrookdale, Ironbridge, the Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame, National Underground Railroad Freedom Center, Cincinnati Reds Hall of Fame and Retail, The Greenbrier Hemisphere Restaurant, 3880 Lounge and Ripley’s Believe it or Not and most recently Ferrari World, Abu Dhabi. 
Chris holds a MFA in Lighting Design from the University of Missouri at Kansas City and a BFA in Stage Design from Webster University. Chris enjoys guest speaking on design techniques and has done so for the Educational Theatre Association as well as for several area high schools. 
Chris is a member of the United States Institute for Theatre Technology (USITT) and is LEED AP BD+C certified by the United States Green Building Council. 
Chris is the recipient of four IESNA Edwin F. Guth Awards for his work on the Cincinnati Reds Retail Shop, the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center, The Tibbals Learning Center, and the New World of Coca Cola.
